My little Facebook page recently got 10,000 likes! I remember starting Broken on August 12, 2012. It was more of an experiment to see if I could write a short story. If maybe that short story could make us enough money to buy us groceries. We were living in poverty on food stamps. I had to borrow money from my dad to hire a cover artist and editor. Once I started writing, though, I couldn't stop. Within days, I had way more than a short story, and within two weeks, I had a completed novel.
Looking back, if I had it to do over again, I'd tell myself that probably shouldn't have been a completed novel. It should have been a rough draft. But hindsight and all that. I published that book, and this little page suddenly had two hundred likes, then two thousand, and before I knew it, I didn't need food stamps anymore.
So, to sit here today and thank you for 10,000 likes is the realization of dream come true. It's one that I remember having those early August days when I started what I thought was going to be a short story to buy my family groceries.
I'm still chasing some dreams, but I wanted to say thank you for your part in helping them come true. It's so surreal. I hope this event is a lot of fun for you and adequately shows the gratitude I hold for you in my heart.
