J.B. McGee supports the following causes and charities:
Foundation of Mitochondrial Medicine
Make-A-Wish Foundation
United Mitochondrial Disease Foundation
Mitoaction
CureMito
Klippel Trenaunay Syndrome
Muscle biopsies and genetic testing first for Noah (bottom-right), then for Jonah (bottom-left) and later for mother and father, J.B. (top-left) and Chad (top-right). For J.B. and Chad, diagnoses of mitochondrial disease became the explanations for chronic lifelong symptoms that never seemed to have a single point of origin.
Throughout J.B.’s life, she has suffered from fatigue, overheating, frequent dehydration and infections. During her freshman year of college, J.B. was forced to take a medical leave for symptoms, now known to be related to mitochondrial disease. Chad has had a ten year history of fatigue, pain, and GI symptoms all of which stem from mitochondrial disease.
Because Mitochondrial Disease is life-threatening, both of J.B.'s children are eligible for wishes through the Make-A-Wish Foundation. The picture is from Noah's trip in May, 2013. She is passionate about raising awareness for Mitochondrial Disease and supporting Make-A-Wish's mission to provide hope, strength, and joy to children and families who are suffering from life-threatening medical conditions.
